Caroline's Coat Guide For Every Occasion

Sometimes dressing for cooler weather feels like an art. Adding extra layers to an outfit, all while keeping it chic, can be tricky. Which is why, as the weather cools, I’m looking for function and form. Coats are a great option, easy to wear and, if chosen wisely and taken care of, are an investment piece that can last for many years. To help you choose the best coat for your wardrobe, I’m showing you my favorite assortment that just landed at lasectavioleta.

If you're looking for something to wear everyday, I love this 100% organic boiled wool car coat. The oversized fit makes it easy to throw on over lightweight tops or sweaters and I love the warm caramel hue. It's also Global Organic Textile Standard certified (GOTS), which is the most important international standard for the sustainable production of clothing and textiles. I styled it with these black boots, black pants and a thin knit roll neck underneath.

When temperatures begin to drop and you need something warm, but without the bulk, this ultra light parka is the answer. Featuring Herno's iconic fabric – nylon with a super soft satin finish, plus a down injected padding –  this coat is warm, yet chic with a fixed hood. It’s also finished with a rain resistant treatment for all climates. While down jackets usually have a sportier look, this long style is contemporary and elegant and can take you out to dinner.

Lauren Manoogian makes clothing that feels like a hug, from sweatpants and sweaters to coats and hats. Crafted from a blend of baby alpaca and super soft merino wool, this dreamy oversized long coat is a favorite of mine that I’m wearing now and will wear well into winter. Not only is it cozy, but it also has a simple oversized cut. I’ve been wearing mine with boots, sneakers, even layered over a dress for date night. There's nothing this coat can’t play well with.

When the great outdoors is calling you, a lightweight performance puffer becomes a wardrobe staple. This camo print style features a water repellent and wind-proof finish with a funnel collar and drawcord hem. It also has an easily removable hood for versatility, plus storm cuffs and thumbholes for added comfort. So, not only will this coat keep you warm, but the iridescent vinyl-effect fabric will break up any monotony in your wardrobe and set you apart from the crowd, whether you're on the street or on the slopes.

This coat is a shorter version of Lauren Manoogian’s long style and crafted from the same baby alpaca and fine merino wool blend for a super soft, knit-like feel. I love how warm and functional it is, while still being a chic layering piece for almost any look. It’s a cool weather layer that I can easily throw on before heading out, and the pearly color is perfection with any other hue.

I like to think of a coat as an investment piece that I take out every season and love for years to come. This long dress coat is one of those iconic pieces you'll want to hold on to. It features a structured midi-length silhouette in a blend of brushed wool, recycled yarn and a classic Prince of Wales design that gives it an elegant vintage charm. I’m layering with my favorite thin black turtleneck, black pants and heeled boots (similar here and here) for a look I can wear and wear and wear.

A puffer with some sheen, this lightweight metallic jacket offers functional, sporty  elements with modern styling. It features a water repellent and windproof finish with a funnel collar and drawstring hemline. With the down filling, storm cuffs and thumbholes, you have another option for casual or sporty occasions.

With so many options, finding the right fall or winter coat can be overwhelming. But with a little focus, having one or two options in your wardrobe can make dressing for cooler weather effortless. Timeless silhouettes, neutral colors and essential functional components are winning elements to look for. And, hopefully I made the hunt that much easier and stress free.
